Local gift to help with Mercy Medical Center expansion

A $900,000 gift from the Jan Again Foundation will fund a Help Center in the entrance of a 27,200 square foot addition to Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa’s East Campus. The new addition will house Behavioral Health services. The expansion is planned for the space next to the hospital’s Emergency Department and will incorporate what is now administrative office space into the new construction.

The overall design for the center will utilize innovative design elements the Behavioral Services team observed during site visits at several regional behavioral health facilities.

“This new building will employ many curved lines in its design and will have fireplaces and other features that will provide a ‘homelike’ experience for patients and visitors,” said Teresa Mock, MD, senior vice president of Mercy Clinics.

The second floor of the new Behavioral Health Center will house separate inpatient units for adults and adolescents. The adult units will contain 24 private rooms, a group therapy room, a dining room and a large space for socialization. The adolescent unit will have five semi-private rooms, a group therapy room and a dining room.
