West Fork seniors denied graduation cord plea

Two West Fork senior girls approached the School Board at their monthly assembly Monday evening with a request to wear their Girl Scouts graduation cords.

Lauren Moore and Sarah Retz, of Girl Scout Troop 20185, came forward with a handwritten letter outlining the extent of their volunteerism, education and character development during their time with Girl Scouts since preschool.

The girls wrote, “Together we have learned about different world cultures, accepting people for who they are, people skills, entrepreneurial skills and how to be more impactful on the world.”

In the letter, they stated that they felt ready for life after high school because of their involvement with Girl Scouts.

The organization provides members who have actively participated in Girl Scouts with a green cord to represent their dedication at high school graduation.

The cord is only available to girls who have been in the Scouts from beginning until end.
