West Fork Middle School Performs ‘Annie’

The sun came out on Saturday, April 1 as the West Fork Middle School presented “Annie” in the Rockwell gymnasium.

Directed by Tori Simkins and Jason Grunklee, the play gave the community the opportunity to enjoy the classic tale of the curly haired orphan through the performances of the middle school students.

“Everything went great. You couldn’t have asked for a better performance,” said Grunklee after the show. “This was the best they’ve ever done.”

The decision to perform a play instead of a typical music concert was made to give the students experience with stage performance before moving on to high school. From there, “Annie” was chosen as a natural fit for the cast’s mostly female demographics.

Leading the play as the titular Annie was eighth grader Tiyana Rogers, who has aspirations of an acting career in her future. Rogers admitted to a few butterflies before going on stage, but said that by the second act she became comfortable performing in front of an audience.
