West Fork Looks To Trim Costs Of Athletic Facility

Plans to build the new West Fork athletic facility continued to stall on Monday, May 19 as the West Fork Community School Board discussed potential cost saving options in lieu of an estimate update from Henkel Construction.

With estimations to build the athletic facility coming in significantly higher than anticipated, the board has to figure out how to cut roughly $400,000 in costs from the project in order to stay below their self-imposed $3.5 million budget.

The first measure the board came to an agreement on is the removal of the additional wing of the building intended to house the weight room. Mark Moines from Martin Gardner Architecture provided the board with an updated design that moves the weight room inside the main building to the area previously designated for the aerobics room. The aerobics room can then either share space with the weight room or move upstairs, at the cost of some additional storage space.
