West Fork coach hangs it up

DES MOINES – After 42 years of seeing Sheffield, Sheffield-Chapin, SCMT and then West Fork athletes come and go, head coach Jeff Tudor called 2019 a career.

The Warhawks veteran coach says he’ll still volunteer, but head coaching is in his rearview mirror.

“I’m just getting old, I guess,” Tudor joked when asked about it.

Partly hard work and partly coaching, his final season saw low numbers with a few who continued to improve as the season progressed and made the state field.

“Sometimes you can take very talented kids, but are not willing to do what they need to do, they are not going to achieve what they can,” Tudor said. “Then you take kids with average talent, willing to work hard and are going to take what they have and use it..."
