Thornton wraps up the year with waterworks

The Thornton City Council wrapped up their business for 2017 during their regular meeting on Monday, December 11.

Waterworks were the topic of the evening as the council reviewed the results of a recent inspection by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The DNR report found minor issues to be addressed, such as city buildings not being metered due to the city not having enough current meters to go around.

Meanwhile, public works director Tom Janeka reported that the city’s Well 1 is leaking, possibly as the result of some recent repairs. Janeka will report back to the city about the exact cause and what it will take to fix it.

On the subject of repairs, Bob Moen with Visu-Sewer was present at the meeting to review the results of a televising survey for the city’s sewer system.

“Your pipe is in really good shape. It’s amazing,” said Moen. “But your joints are really bad.”
