Thornton to keep memorial grounds tree

The Thornton City Council continued their discussion about implementing a storm sewer surcharge during their regular meeting on Monday, June 3.

The council has been considering adding a $5 surcharge to the monthly water bill as a way to raise funds for future storm sewer improvement projects.

The additional money would generate roughly $1,200 a month for the city, however there were concerns from the council that the surcharge might be too high, particularly since it isn't going towards a specific project.

"We don't have any idea what we're going to spend it on," said council member Larry Stadtlander.

While the city doesn't have a storm sewer project in mind at the moment, it was noted that many communities in the area are working on updating their own storm sewers and starting to save up now could prevent problems down the road.
