Thornton council discusses storm sewer updates

The Thornton City Council oversaw the scheduled increase in water rates during their regular meeting on Monday, February 4.

Unless directed otherwise by the council, rates for water, sewer, and garbage increase by three percent annually. The new base rates for 2019 will be $16.39 per month for water, $31.04 per month for sewer, and $16.86 per month for garbage. The city moved to automatic incremental increases some years ago to avoid having to implement large increases when revenue demanded it. Since then, the city has been able to build up a substantial savings that can be used for water line and sanitary sewer repairs.

One area the city may invest some of that built up fund in is the storm sewer system.
