Swaledale discusses plans for 2017 RAGBRAI

Members of the Swaledale community came together to start preparing for the 2017 RAGBRAI — which will pass through the town —during a meeting at the Swaledale Public Library on May 2.

The last time the annual seven-day-long bike ride across Iowa passed through Swaledale was in 2010. This time around, riders traveling the July 26 route will visit Thornton for the first time in RAGBRAI history, then move on to Swaledale in the mid-morning.

“The purpose of this meeting is to kind of let you know what we’ve done so far,” said Mayor John Drury. “We want to let everyone know what we’ve got going in terms of what the town’s planning, and vendors.”

The theme for the Swaledale stop is the town’s 125th birthday, which is being celebrated separately in late June. In keeping with the theme, everything in the town’s stop will start with the letter “B,” from bikes to birthday-cake-shaped decorations.
