Sheffield Sunrise Homes will not be rebuilt

After a fire that sparked and caused irreparable damage to five of the Sheffield Sunrise Apartments this past spring, the complex’s local board of directors has made the difficult decision to not rebuild them moving forward.

Back on April 2, 2017, a fire started in the elderly/disabled apartment complex as the result of what a resident said was a cooking accident, and quickly ripped through apartments one through five. Although all residents were able to escape the blaze without injury, the five apartments affected by the fire were deemed a total loss.

The recent decision to not rebuild the five apartments lost in the fire was made due to a lack of necessary funding. According to a letter released by the board of directors, the insurance money collected from the fire left them with a minimum $150,000 shortfall needed to rebuild. The additional funding would have needed to be secured through a large loan, which was a financial responsibility the board of directors was unprepared for.
