Sheffield natives visit Iowa Statehouse

Two Sheffield residents visited the Iowa Statehouse on behalf of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) last month to advocate for state veterinary laboratory funding.

Mark Devries, District Four Director of the ICA, and Steve Riles, both of Sheffield, spoke with legislators regarding a potential 20 million dollar project that would provide upgrades, repairs and maintenance to a vet laboratory and diagnostic research facility in Ames.

The funding is critical in order for professionals to respond to urgent disease outbreaks such as hand, foot and mouth disease, Devries said.
