Sheffield cutoff date for pool re-opening

The Sheffield City Council discussed when or if they will re-open the city swimming pool during their regular meeting on Monday, May 11.

Like most public places, swimming pools have been closed under the state emergency proclamation to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is not known when or if Governor Kim Reynolds will allow pools to re-open, but due to the limited window of time pools are open to begin with, the city discussed how late in the season would be too late to make re-opening the pool at all worth the time and expense.

"We want to draw a line in the sand that if we can't open by this date, we can't open," said Mayor Scott Sanders.

The council decided that July 1 would be the cutoff date.
