Rockwell resets appointment process

The Rockwell City Council had to reset their search for a fifth member during their regular meeting on Wednesday, December 5.

At the previous meeting, the council voted on how they would fill the seat opened by Adam Wedmore, who resigned after being elected to serve as the Cerro Gordo County Auditor.

There was a debate among the council about whether to appoint a new person to fill out the remainder of Wedmore’s term or to hold a special election. Appointing a new council member would avoid the cost of a special election, however council members Larry Wentz and Betty Gauley expressed concern about bringing somebody in for a three year term that wasn’t voted in by the community.

Council members Brian Koob and Randy Meyer voted in favor of appointment while Wentz and Gauley voted against. Believing he was able to break a tie vote, Mayor Michal Flatness cast a vote in favor of appointment and the city took the first steps in that process.
