Rockwell postpones 150th celebration

Rockwell's 150th Anniversary celebration has been postponed until next year due to the spread of COVID-19. The decision was made on Wednesday, May 6 at the regular Rockwell City Council meeting.

Since it is unknown what the state rules will be regarding public gatherings for the foreseeable future, it has become logistically unfeasible to plan for the celebration, particularly when it comes to organizing groups like the school marching band or other entities that may not be prepared even if the event were to happen.

"Maybe it's not impossible, but it's awful close," said Mayor Mike Flatness. "It's an unfortunate thing, but it is what it is."

Instead, the celebration will be postponed until next year. The Rockwell Firefighters have been able to secure the same band for next year's Father's Day weekend and it is hoped by that a sense of normalcy will have returned.
