Rockwell community enjoys first National Night Out

Rockwell had a lot going on last week, kicking things off with the city’s first annual National Night Out event.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that encourages communities to strengthen the relationship between residents and local law enforcement. The program has been around for many years and this year the City of Rockwell decided it would be a good idea to put on the event for the town.

“It’s an opportunity for communities to get together and get familiar with law enforcement to see who they really are,” said Rockwell Mayor Mike Flatness. “It’s just a good way to get to know people in Rockwell.”

Spearheading the event was Rockwell Police Chief Rick Whitney, who brought the idea to the attention to the council earlier this year and was given the go-ahead to organize the party. With the aid of Pat Hurley and Amber Demaray, Whitney received donations and support from area businesses and volunteer groups to set up an evening party outside of the Rockwell City Hall.
