North Iowa Youth Center joins the crusade against cancer

The vitality and perseverance of Landon, Heather, and Jerry Tollefson has gathered the support of people from many neighboring communities, and the North Iowa Youth Center (NIYC) has announced their intentions to rally funds for the family.

Landon, who recently celebrated his fourth birthday, was diagnosed in April of 2016 with acute myeloid leukemia. The young boy endured several rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant before entering remission. Shortly after returning home, a routine checkup in Aug of 2017 revealed the cancer’s return.

Although the family is native to Sheffield, the story of their strength in the face of adversity has spread far and wide, and community support sent Landon to the Mall of America and provided him with a bounce house for his fourth birthday.

“The community has continued to help when and where they can, and we can’t thank them enough. Our baby is our life, and we know that we aren’t fighting alone. The community is amazing, and we just want you to all know that we love and appreciate you,” said Heather Tollefson in an interview last year.
