More Shopko stores on the chopping block

Shopko last week announced another round of store closures, which will affect additional communities in the area.

In January, Shopko filed petitions for court supervised financial restructuring under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code, which called for the closure of 38 stores, including the Hampton location. The Hampton store is scheduled to close April 14.

Late last year, Shopko also announced a round of closures that included the Eldora and Webster City locations, which will be effective March 2 of this year.

The announcement made last week stated that the Clarion and Forest City locations will also close effective May 12.

The most recent round of closures bumps the total to over 200 stores that will not be in service later this year. Additionally, Shopko will relocate 20 optical centers and undergo the auction process for its pharmacies.
