Local, statewide facilities continue to struggle with nursing shortages

The nursing shortage in Iowa has not experienced any downward slope, and educators and hospital staff are frustrated at the state's lack of relief.

The demands have recently been tackled by University of Iowa's College of Nursing and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). The two institutions have partnered n a new agreement to allow NIACC nursing graduates to easily transfer to the University of Iowa and complete their Bachelors of Nursing Science (BSN) degree in just one year.

According to UI College of Nursing Dean Julie Zerwic, "this program is designed for associate degree and diploma-prepared RNs who are ready to expand their nursing skills and professional potential by earning the BSN."
