Jury finds Meservey man guilty of Willful Injury, Kidnapping

After a four-day-long jury trial, Charles Albright, 42, of Meservey, was found guilty of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and First-Degree Kidnapping in Franklin County District Court on July 14.

Starting on July 11, the trial to review a case of abuse between Albright, and his former live-in girlfriend, Kim Hartman, 36, of Meservey, began. Albright was charged with one count of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and one count of First-Degree Kidnapping, both of which he pled not guilty to.

Albright was accused of beating and torturing Hartman last October 7 in their shared Meservey home, and also of beating her in his vehicle while driving to Sheffield the same day. Hartman later fled to Dollar General in Sheffield, and hid in a bathroom, until law enforcement arrived on the scene.

The First day of the Trial Focused on the jury selection.

District Court Judge Gregg Rosenbladt presided over the case, attorney James Metcalf represented Albright and Iowa Assistant Attorney General Laura Roan prosecuted the case.
