Iowa Secretary of State aims to increase voting reform awareness

Since 93% of Iowans have a form of government ID, it’s easy for many residents to vote. However, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate felt that the state could go one step further to inch Iowa’s voter participation rates up to 100%.

Secretary Pate is striving for more efficient, error-free elections, he said in a voter awareness round table at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse Monday afternoon. That is why the state is issuing a soft rollout of voter ID cards, which are available to individuals without a form of government ID.

The cards consist of a PIN unique to the voter, a barcode and a signature. The ID cards are additional measures to ensure that votes are accurate, honest and secure.

“Election security will always be a top priority. We have to protect the critical systems that run the elections,” explained Pate.
