Hansen, Weaver medal in 1A distance races

DES MOINES - Believe it or not, Jake Hansen of West Fork earned his first state track medal on Thursday, May 18.

Finishing fourth in the 3,200, Hansen ran to 9 minutes, 50.87 seconds his first time running the event at state, just the second time he has broken 10 minutes.

"I thought I ran a pretty good race," Hansen said. "This is the first time I've run a 3,200 at state track, first and last time, a good experience. I finally got a medal. I made some history there for myself."

Earlier Thursday morning, West Fork's Kenna Weaver worked her way through a tough 3,000 girls field to finish eighth.

"The race moved slow, at least for me," Hansen said. "I started at the back of the pack and worked my way up. I'm move comfortable with a longer race.

"The last 900 meters I really started pushing it, so that was good to have. Hopefully, I get rested now and get some more medals on Saturday."
