A gathering of nations in West Fork’s gym

Last Friday, West Fork Middle School’s gym was filled with worldly aromas, lively colors, and the songs of far-off lands as 7th grade students came together in their annual Festival of Nations.

Rejoicing countries as close as our neighboring Mexico and as far-flung as Norway, students spent anywhere from two weeks up to over a month researching the customs, mannerisms, cuisine, and history of their nations. Even though the kids dedicated a lot of their free time to their projects, there was a lot to learn about their countries of choice.

“I am glad I got to learn about all of Mexico’s traditions,” said 7th grader Ellie Weaver.

Rose Rother, another 7th grade student, was equally intrigued by her country, stating, “The flag of India is only 70 years old. I thought it would be a lot older so I thought that was really cool.”
