Franklin County Farm Bureau encourages safety on farms

     The start of the new school year, when high school students start preparing to get their licenses or newly driving with their licenses, can be one of excitement and wonder in the realm of independence. But independence without worldly knowledge can some times lead to disaster.

     The Franklin County Farm Bureau held a Safety Day Tuesday, Sept. 6 on the Franklin County fair grounds to inform high schoolers from Hampton-Dumont, CAL and Westfork districts, of the dangers of using equipment on the farm.

     “We can train, we can train, we can train,” said Iowa Farm Bureau Regional Manager Randy Heitz, “but I can tell you my friend was in ninth grade when he was killed in an accident — that’s one time that reality set in that we wouldn’t be able to do fun stuff.”
