Franklin Co. Sheriff, DCI investigate shooting Sunday

A shooting at the Dows exit in Franklin County at around 1:30 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 28 remains under investigation. The shooting sent one victim by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City.

After an initial response by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, and medical personnel from the Franklin General Hospital and West Franklin First Responders, officials requested the assistance of the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.

On Monday, the Iowa Department of Public Safety in a release said officials are seeking to identify two subjects, a black male and female, possibly connected to the incident. Surveillance footage showed the two at a nearby convenience store prior to the shooting and driving a gray or silver four-door SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the subjects is asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at 641-456-2731.

The incident remains under investigation at this time by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa DCI. More information will be published as it becomes available.
