Flatness elected as Rockwell mayor; Incumbents continue in other area communities

The results of the November 7 elections are in. While most area cities won’t see many changes to their local government next year, contested races in Rockwell will see both new and old faces sworn in come January.

Former city council member Michael Flatness challenged incumbent Mayor James Bills for the mayor’s seat and won the election, receiving 165 votes (52.4 percent) over Bills’ 143 votes (45.4 percent).

Rockwell also had three open council seats, contested by five candidates on the ballot. Candidates Randy Meyer and Betty Gauley secured two of the three seats, receiving 195 and 151 votes respectively. Other candidates on the ballot included Lee Gossweiller, receiving 91 votes; Linda Meyer, receiving 117 votes; and Kevin Zeitler, receiving 118 votes, but the third at-large seat instead will go to former council member Adam Wedmore, who launched a successful write-in campaign late in the race, receiving 162 votes.

The contested races brought out 44.5 percent of register voters, with 317 votes cast.

While the Rockwell government will see some major changes next year, there will be little change in the rest of the county.
