Fire damages Sheffield home Sunday

No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a Sheffield house Sunday night.

Sheffield Fire Department Assistant Chief Calvin Primus said no one was home when a fire was reported in the 500 block of Maple Street shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday.

Crews arrived on scene and discovered the fire started in the basement and had spread to the attic. Primus said the fire likely started in the home’s furnace system.

He estimated the building was a total loss.

Crews were on scene for approximately nine hours fighting the fire and putting out hotspots.

The fire department was assisted by Sheffield EMS, the Sheffield Police Department, Franklin County Emergency Management and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
