DOT planning HWY 65 bridge project for 2020

The Iowa Department of Transportation is planning a major bridge reconstruction project that will affect the city of Rockwell throughout the 2020 construction season.

On Tuesday, January 8, the Iowa DOT and engineers from Veenstra and Kimm Inc. held a public information meeting to explain the state’s plans for replacing HWY 65 bridges over Beaverdam Creek near Rockwell.

“We’re happy that we can do all three at once,” said DOT Coordinator Pete Hjelmstad, “We like to minimize the disruption as much as possible.”

This project has been a long time coming, with each bridge nearing the end of their projected lifespans. The south and north bridges were last renovated in 1955 while the middle bridge has been around since 1931.
