Detours on Highway 65 begin next Tuesday

Beginning next Tuesday, travelers on Highway 65 will have to make some adjustments.

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the detour to accommodate bridge reconstruction on Highway 65 through Hampton will go into effect on Tuesday, March 31.

The DOT will work to remove and replace bridges on Highway 65 near the Hampton Cemetery and Harriman Park. Pete Hjelmsted, field services coordinator for the Iowa DOT said these will be full replacement projects, which require an extensive amount of work.

“It’s a very involved project because it is a removal of the old bridges, piers and abutments,” he said. “It is a very involved process and will take the entire construction season.”
