Construction on Sheffield C13 Grant St. Bridge completed

Passage on the Sheffield Grant St. and Franklin County C13 bridge is now available as the county’s bridge project is finally complete.

County Engineer Jay Waddingham said that construction started this past May, and continued on as schedule through its completion on Oct. 26, after a year and a half of delays, due to environmental concerns and regulatory road blocks.

The nearly $1.1 million project was paid for predominantly by federal dollars, with the county and City of Sheffield splitting the 20 percent cost to the local governing bodies.

Back in April of 2014, Sheffield and the county entered into an agreement in which they would both share the costs to repairing the bridge.
