Clerk uses scholarship for training

Throughout July, Sheffield City Clerk Katy Flint spent time in Ames for a third year of working her way toward becoming an Iowa Certified Municipal Clerk through training held by the Iowa Municipal Professional Institute.

And this year, she continued her annual training with the help of a scholarship she earned through the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association.

When Flint was initially hired as the new city clerk for Sheffield three years ago, it was on the condition that she would become a state certified clerk while in the position. “The city council essentially made it mandatory when I was hired, and it’s just to be the best educated that you can be in your position, to help the town run smoothly and correctly by the state codes, and to be educated so you can help the council as much as possible,” Flint said.
