Cerro Gordo Community Foundation Awards Grants To Area Groups

The Cerro Gordo Community Foundation awarded grants to dozens of area cities and volunteer groups during their annual awards ceremony on Monday, June 29.

Giving grants to 36 local nonprofit organizations and government entities, the community foundation distributed $87,314.58 during this year's awards.

"I think it's just fabulous," said Joy Baker, who accepted $3,500 on behalf of Mission Thornton. The community group will be putting that money towards a project to repair and update the Main Street basketball court. The full project includes leveling out the asphalt, painting new lines, and installing a new fence and hoops for the court.

"It's going to make Main Street look so much better," said Baker. "We want it to be safe, fun, and look good."
