Ambitious education goals by Governor Branstad

The future of education in Iowa is about to change.

Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds have put forth a bold new plan to close the skills gap in the state dubbed Future Ready Iowa.

Future Ready Iowa is the Governor’s initiative to build Iowa’s talent pipeline and develop strategies to improve education and training of Iowans, and to make sure it aligns with employer demands.

History

In 2014, Iowa received a National Governors Association grant for $170,000. This grant turned into a report commissioned by the Branstad-Reynolds Administration, in collaboration with the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.

The report noted that 612,000 jobs would be added to Iowa’s economy between 2010 and 2025. It also stated that 68 percent of all Iowa jobs are expected to require postsecondary education and training beyond high school, which is three percent above the national average, according to the report.
