2019 brings a new start for Sheffield salon

The New Year is bringing new opportunities for Ashley Stevens, who is looking forward to running her own business as Twisted Roots salon in Sheffield.

A 2014 West Fork graduate, Stevens started her career in cosmetology at Kush Spa & Salon in Mason City, working there until it closed in 2016. Utilizing her license in massage therapy, Stevens moved on to Active Family Chiropractic in Sheffield. Then, in late 2018, she moved across the street to work for Rhonda Smit at her salon.

However, her time as an employee was short-lived. In October, Smit decided to move away from the business, leaving the 22 year-old Stevens with a big choice to make. Move on to something else or operate the salon on her own.

Stevens took the plunge and has since been working to make the salon her own, rebranding it as “Twisted Roots.” Along with the usual services of hair coloring, styling, and up-dos, Stevens offers tanning and massage service.

“It’s been good, for the most part,” said Stevens. “It was a lot to take in at first but we’re doing good.”
